Meet the Southern mom behind the site:
Hi I’m Kristen, a full time career woman and mother living in southern Georgia, and just like most women and mothers trying to balance it all while still pursuing my own interests and dreams.
Like many I was caught in the daily struggle of trying to have a successful and meaningful career, while balancing a home, a marriage, two children and all of their numerous extra-curricular activities. I felt worn out and depleted many evenings as I crawled into bed realizing it would be the same stressful routine the next day. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love my children and being able to do as much as possible for them and I really enjoy my career being a Deputy Director in charge of a division for the Marine Corps. However, I had felt that over the years I had somewhat lost a part of my authentic self. The “who” I was outside of the terms “mother”, “wife” or “Director” had become lost. What were my hobbies? What were my interests? What personally brought me joy in my free time? At some point my children would grow up and I would retire from my career, who would I be then?
I pondered over these questions late one night, over what was probably way too much chocolate and a nice cup of hot tea, when I decided to watch a documentary on a cut flower farm. The visual imagery and content was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. I felt a spark ignite. Could I create and grow something this beautiful as well? I have always loved beautiful things, who doesn’t? However, there was something so empowering about the thought of being able to create and grow something so beautiful. I had not felt this feeling since I was a young 20 something woman taking culinary classes at the Viking Culinary Center in Atlanta and cooking beautiful meals for my parents and friends. So I dove head first into learning everything I could about gardening. What started with a flower garden in my backyard, quickly grew into a cut flower garden, then an edible garden, which evolved into using the harvest from my garden to create delicious meals and flower arrangements to use inside my home. I started slowing down and began looking to replicate and incorporate the idea of natural and authentic beauty into every aspect of my life: my home, beauty, fashion, travel, lifestyle choices, cooking, and of course gardening. I started teaching my young daughters the importance
I have spent the last several years learning and practicing, sometimes by trial and error, about the subjects included in this blog and my desire is to share with you what I have learned, and to provide my recommendations to make every busy woman’s life just a little bit easier, and beautiful!
